Among the variety of qualified projects, Belgrade Waste Management PPP Project has been awarded a Public-Private Collaboration Award at the World Economic Forum’s Urban Transformation Summit taking place in Detroit, Michigan on 9th October 2023 for the proven PPP project contributions to urban transformation and development, environment protection improvement, CO2 emissions reductions and achieving several key Sustainable Development Goals.
In the context of limited investment capacities, the City of Belgrade following the competitive tender bidding, awarded PPP Contract for financing, design, construction and 25-year operation to Special Purpose Vehicle Company Beo Čista Energija Ltd. established by the consortium formed by ITOCHU Corporation [Japanese conglomerate with diversified businesses aiming for “Sampo-Yoshi”], Veolia Group [French global benchmark company for ecological transformation], and Marguerite Fund [pan-European investment fund in European capital intensive, sustainable opportunities]. PPP Vinca Project is recognized as a Serbian – Japanese – French cooperation project, supported by the International Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Austrian Development Bank.
Mr. Eiichiro Higashiyama, Senior Vice President of ITOCHU Corporation, received the award on behalf of Beo Čista Energija on Monday, October 9 in Detroit.
“We are thrilled that the Belgrade Waste Management PPP Project has been acknowledged and honored by this prestigious award. Investment of about Euro 400 mil in the first private public partnership of such magnitude in the Balkans region, make us proud along with the City of Belgrade. We turned black environmental spot into the waste management and recovery center providing services for treatment and disposal of more than 800,000 tons of the municipal solid and construction and demolition waste and production of renewable energy from waste and landfill gas of 103 MW.”
