Today, 260 poplars and willows are being planted within the Waste Management Center in Vinča, as part of a scientific experiment in order to understand the role of these plants in landfill remediation.
This action is part of the project Landfill Remediation with the Use of Short Rotation Biomass Woody Crops Energy Plantations and Provisioning Multiple Ecosystem, supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, No 5357, TreeRemEnergy. The experiment is conducted by project participants from the Institute for Lowland Forestry and the Environment and the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research. Initial findings will be available after 6 months of monitoring soil, water, and plant material, with final results expected in May 2025.
